Birmingham Drag & Burlesque Festival presents: Twerkshop with Donna Poderosa
Learn the art of twerklesque in this fun workshop focused on unlocking the buttocks 🍑
Brazilian funk will be our soundtrack while we learn the basics of twerking. This class will be a playground for us to dance, learn and shake it all off with no judgement. We will also blend burlesque elements for an extra spicy twerklesque fusion. Twerking is good for your mind, body & soul. I am hoping this class will leave you feeling good, energised and like you've just been to Carnival! This class is suitable for all levels of experience (beginners welcome). All genders & identities are very welcome.

Class structure:
- Welcome & Intro to the Twerkshop & twerk culture (Focus mainly on Brazilian style and influences) (5min)
- Warm up & quick stretch (10 min)
- Twerk tool kit (20 min)
- Short choreo (20 min)
- Q&A (If we have time) & Goodbyes (5 min)

What to bring:
What to wear: make sure you wear
something loose fitting (no leggings).
Shorts are great as long as they're
not constrictive. Choose an outfit that
makes you feel good! We don't just want
comfort ... We want to feel ourselves
too and let it all jiggle 💋💦
What to bring: plenty of water.
Kneepads are not required, but if you
have some, pack them. Snacks for later.

1. The ticket holder voluntarily assumes all risks and danger incidental to the event for which the ticket is issued, whether occurring prior, during or after the event. The ticket holder voluntarily agrees that the management, venue, event participants, DesignMyNight (WFL Media Ltd) and all of their respective agents, officers, directors, owners and employers are expressly released by the ticket holder from any claims arising from such causes.
2. Tickets are issued subject to the rules and regulations of the venue.
3. Please check your tickets, as mistakes cannot always be rectified.
4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
8. Tickets are sold subject to the venue or promoter's right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.

I can't recommend this dance class highly enough. Dominus creates a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable, regardless of experience level. Dominus is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about dance. They take the time to ensure everyone is keeping up and are always happy to offer guidance and encouragement. Dominus’s enthusiasm is infectious and brings so much energy to every class. They make learning fun, build confidence, and celebrate everyone's progress, no matter how small. The classes are well organised, engaging, and a great mix of technique, fitness, and creativity. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a friendly, high-quality dance class.

Having seen an amazing show at The Old Joint Stock, we were thrilled to discover the Burlesque classes with House of Allure. Having limited dance experience, we were nervous of what to expect but we were made very welcome at our first class. And with an opportunity to perform as part of Pride 2027 what is not to love? What an amazing positive, inclusive, welcoming group who made us feel like this was a safe space for fun, self expression and joy without judgment. We are hooked and can’t wait to continue our journey in Burlesque!
