ABOUT CRIP LADYWOOD:
Crip Ladywood rolled onto the Birmingham drag scene in late 2021
and has been going from strength to strength since. He's one of the
UKs best known disabled Drag Kings, combining live vocals with camp
comedy patter and heartfelt love for his craft and communities.
Winner of Europe’s biggest Drag King contest, Man Up 2024, host of
Ladywood’s Legends & Man Cave. He is an award-winning cabaret Drag
King, who has performed across the UK and internationally to
thousands, blending old school drag talent with bold looks and
sharing an infectious love of life and laughter. He’s able to
provide hosting skills, games, comedy, live singing using his wide
range, and even the odd lip-sync too.
When not in drag Crip's alter ego Emma (they/them), has over a
decade of experience in disabled peoples' activism and campaigning.
They are a consummate public speaker and educator. Leading with
compassion, but not losing sight of the end goal, they have worked
tirelessly to advocate for disabled peoples' liberation. Emma is
currently the Access Lead of Birmingham Pride, and a proud Equity
member.
As a genderqueer, bisexual, fat, neurodivergent, wheelchair user
they bring their unique perspective to the drag world which touches
on what it is to be queer, to be proud of one's existence, to
struggle to access community, and the importance of finding and
treasuring the moments of lightness and joy.
Birmingham Drag & Burlesque Festival is supported using National
Lottery Funding through Arts Council England.
Please note that there may be videography & photography during workshops for festival promotion. If you would not like to be seen, please notify the workshop instructor.
